Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information Silk & Stems Events collects through this website, why we collect it and how we look after it. We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Who we are
Silk & Stems Events (“Silk & Stems”, “we”, “us”) is a women-led events company based in Gauteng, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website.
For any privacy question or request, email silkandstemsevents@gmail.com or use the contact form on our home page, and mention “privacy” in your message. Our Information Officer will respond.
What we collect
When you send an enquiry
Your name and email address, and anything else you choose to give us: phone number, organisation, the kind of event you are planning, a preferred date, guest numbers and your message.
When you visit the website
We count visits anonymously so we know how the site is used. For each visit we record the page you viewed, the website that referred you (its domain only), your device type (mobile, tablet or desktop) and whether you clicked through to buy tickets.
We do not use cookies for this and we do not store your IP address. To count unique visitors per day, we turn your IP address and browser details into a one-way code using a key that changes daily. The code cannot be turned back into your IP address and cannot be used to recognise you on a different day. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we do not count your visit at all.
When you buy tickets
Tickets are sold by Quicket. Quicket collects and processes your purchase details under its own privacy policy, and shares attendee and order information with us as the event organiser so that we can run the event.
Technical logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, to operate and secure the service.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and plan events with you.
- To manage our events, including attendee lists and messages about an event you have booked.
- To understand how many people visit the site and which pages help them.
- To keep the website secure and prevent spam and abuse.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for marketing unless you ask us to.
Our lawful basis
Under section 11 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), we process personal information because you consented to it, because it is needed to take steps you asked for (such as quoting for an event), because it is in our legitimate interest to run a secure and useful website, or because the law requires it.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers (operators) who process information only on our instructions:
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts this website. |
| Resend | Delivers enquiry emails to our team. |
| Upstash | Securely stores enquiries and anonymous visit counts. |
| Quicket | Sells and issues event tickets. |
| Google Fonts | Serves the website’s typefaces. Your browser’s IP address is sent to Google when the fonts load. |
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Information sent outside South Africa
Some of our providers store or process information outside South Africa, for example in the United States or the European Union. We only use providers that are bound by law, binding agreements or binding corporate rules giving a level of protection comparable to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries are kept for up to 24 months after our last contact with you, then deleted.
- Visit statistics are kept only as totals that contain no personal information.
- Server logs are kept for the period our hosting provider sets for security purposes.
How we protect it
The website is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Enquiries can be read only through a password-protected admin console limited to the founders and people they authorise. We ask our providers to apply appropriate security measures.
Your rights
You may ask us whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy of it, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent at any time. Email us at silkandstemsevents@gmail.com or use the contact form. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
Children
This website is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 through it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change and show the new date at the top.
